(We missed Throwback Thursday this week so we’re making up for it in a big way. Enjoy the review ya bastards!)

Even though one of my all time favorite hobbies is to throw on Fleshwrought as loud as possible while I drive through suburban areas….I highly advise against it. This album is just so full of anger even the mildest tempered individual is at risk when listening to “Dementia/Dyslexia.” It’s the perfect recipe for a speeding ticket or vehicular manslaughter.

Navene Koperweis (Animosity, Animals As Leaders) takes on all responsibilities in the 2010 tech-death masterpiece, “Dementia/Dyslexia.” With exception to the vocals, featuring Jonny Davy (Job For A Cowboy), Koperweis plays all instruments featured and does it with a scary amount of expertise, while coexisting as the albums producer.

 
Every instrument in the album deserves a full listen of its own…but only after tens of times relentlessly head banging along with the fury. The first 10 seconds of the album tells you that you’re in for a dark merciless shredding of the mind and ear but one would never expect the method in which it is delivered. The tracks flow right into the next but every song remains unique. There are elements in the album such as a saxophone solo and far out computery noises that set this tech-death project away from others.

Only 33 minutes long “Dementia/Dyslexia” contains countless impossibly fast riffs and piercing solos but does so without cramming or clutter. The album always seems longer than 33 minutes. My theory is that Fleshwrought has content for a 55 minute album but play so goddamn fast it ends up being only 33 minutes. And because faster is better, basic math tells us that Fleshwrought is awesome. The drums are endlessly entertaining! Unfathomable fills and blasts and a bass pedal like a machine gun, Koperweis poured his heart and soul into Fleshwrought. The track “Weeping Hallucinations” feels like a window to a demented man’s mind.

 
One of my favorite things about the album is the vocals, lyrics included. Jonny Davy of JFAC was handpicked by Navene for an obvious reason….he is a freaking beast! Davy shows talent which stretches beyond his role of JFAC. Matching the vocals/lyrics with the instruments Davy strings together a common theme held throughout “Dementia/Dyslexia.” Beginning with dementia, then anxiety, depression, desolation, frustration then appropriately ending in self-destruction. Davy said this about recording on Dementia/Dyslexia,“…I literally sat and analyzed every note, every beat and every nanosecond of the album until it drove me to the brink of insanity. Personally, I’ve gone through a bizarre year and the album triggered a lot of inner anxiety.”

With that said…any fan of the heavy metal with built up emotion should find Fleshwrought’s Dementia/Dyslexia to be the album that rips that burden from within you and turns it into a burning passion, a feeling you can use to fuel you through your troubles.
