Following the untimely passing of Architects guitarist and songwriter Tom Searle, the band opted to move forward with touring. They showed strength and honor through a situation that was hard to cope with. For this, we have nothing but respect for them and their legacy.
Recently, drummer and twin brother to Tom, Dan Searle took time to address the situation and the future of the band. He had the following to say:
“Hello everyone,
I just wanted to say a belated thank you to every single person that attended our European and UK headline tour. It was a total whirlwind of emotions, a mix of disbelief at the size of the crowds, elation at the love sent our way every night, and sadness, from Tom‘s absence.
Now that the tour has finished I can honestly say that the tour gave us what we needed. It wasn’t always easy, but playing these shows helped us through a very, very difficult period of our lives.
Undoubtedly the hardest for myself. I can’t pretend that things are easy now, we’re definitely finding our feet again now we’re home but I found being back on tour, and doing what we do best, very comforting and performing the songs felt good. It was the right thing to do.
There’s too many highlights to recite, and I don’t want to pick favourites, but so many nights were beyond our wildest expectations. It was an experience that we’ll never forget.
I’ve addressed this elsewhere but I just want to reiterate that this was not our last tour in this part of the world. I’ve heard and seen people claim that these shows were the last opportunity to see us and that is something that we’ve never said. This album cycle has literally just begun. Yes, there’s uncertainty for the future.
We must evolve and adapt as a band in order to move forward and, as I’ve said before, we don’t intend to move forward unless we deem the output worthy of the legacy of the band. Does that mean I don’t think we’ll be able to continue beyond this album? I don’t want to make any promises, but I believe in the ability and chemistry that remains between us, and I feel as inspired as I ever have. Anything could happen.
Thank you again, everyone. Much love to you all. We’re off to Taiwan tomorrow for a show there on Sunday. Hopefully see some of you there.
Dan x”
