What do you get when you combine New Zealand’s ODD Guitars with the technology of 3D printing? Something very, very odd that costs $4,000.
Presenting the Steampunk 3D Printed Gear Guitar. We can’t make this stuff up. The instrument literally has a series of spinning gears and pumps running at all times of operation – though they’re obviously just for show. With that being said, this is arguably one of the most unique guitars currently out on the market. You can take a look at the instrument in motion and read the ODD Guitars description of what they’ve done here:
A tribute to one of my all-time favorite guitars, the Telecaster. This guitar features a 3D printed body with moving gears and piston. The entire body, including all its moving components is printed as a single component, with no further assembly required. The Steampunk paint job was done by New Zealand airbrush artist Ron van Dam.
The body was printed using selective laser sintering (SLS) by 3D Systems, in the USA, on an sPro 230 SLS machine out of Duraform (nylon) material.
