Soundwave

There’s been a lot of back and forth recently in regards to one of Australia’s premiere music festivals. It started off with questions about the festival’s longevity into 2017 and spread into next year’s edition in 2016. Now, we have news that the 12 year running festival has been cancelled for good. It looks like there will be no more Soundwave next year or any year for that matter. Kind of sad to see it go like this but it’s with good reason.

Yesterday, the festival’s founder AJ Maddah had the following to say:

“Essentially here are the brief facts: Eventopia were supposed to give SW a scheduled advance to pay deposits to NOFX and Bring Me The Horizon. Their CFO changed her mind and decided not make the advance but didn’t tell anyone. so we (SW and bands) waited and waited for money. If they had informed us that scheduled funds were cancelled, we could have made other arrangements. So now we are in bad situation. There have been discussions today. I’m waiting on Eventopia/Ticketek to make their decision. We cannot hold festival without their support.”

Today, he followed up by saying:

“I am devastated to have to announce the cancellation of Soundwave 16 due to poor ticket sales. I am very sorry. I tried my best. Thank you to all the fans, bands and people who supported the event for the last 12 years. I wish we could have ended it on a better note.”

So that’s it. No more Soundwave. AJ has also been releasing a series of tweets in regards to this. You can read them by clicking here.
