If you’re anything like me, when you see a spacey and modern album cover labeled as metal, your first thought is; “Does it Djent?”
In most cases, it does indeed, Djent. However, every once in a while something comes along looking like that and it is awesomely different.
At first glance, “The Search Part 1: Introspection” from Lechuga looks like a typical djenty, spacey, chugfest, but very early on you are presented with a beautiful piano line that offsets the initial bombardment of guitar. Aside from that, with the atmospheric synths and backing melodies, this definitely feels like much more of a progressive metal installment. That is not to say that it isn’t without the thickness. The thickness remains.
With the completion of the first tune on the EP we are brought into a very open feeling track with flowing leads and acoustic guitar accompanying it. I must say that I wasn’t expecting that, but was definitely pleasantly surprised. I don’t want to give too much away in regards to the aural adventure this will take you on. There are a lot of unexpected happenings throughout, but they all fall together very well and make this a very strong standalone record even though it is technically only an EP. Not to mention it’s just over half an hour. That’s longer than some albums… I should also add that there is no fluff. Everything you hear is necessary to this auditory story.
I may be a little biased when I checked this out because I noticed the track “Introspection” featured a guest solo from David Maxim Micic… So… I was compelled to check this out anyway.
I’m definitely glad I did.
