BrutalSphincter

Brutal Sphincter is a new goregrind three-piece band from Belgium. They are in my opinion one of the best rising goregrind bands in the European theater alongside their Austrian brothers in VxPxOxAxAxOxWxAxMxC. Founded in April 2013, BxSx is a bit new to the scene, but within two years, they will release their professionally recorded and mastered debut full-length this February. They are a groove machine ready to pummel all opposing forces.

I must thank Germain (guitarist) for giving me a pre-release download of the album. It’s been a true pleasure jamming out to it. Two years ago, BxSx released a three song demo featuring what they can do, and often times that was the only goregrind release I’d listen to, because I struggled finding similar bands at first. Now I’ve got a better knowledge of goregrind, but still can only find a handful of current bands the same style of grind with the same quality as Brutal Sphincter. If there is one thing I can tell you about this album, it is that you need to expect brutal breakdowns and grooves with amazing inhales!

If you already love Rompeprop and Cock and Ball Torture, you need to stop reading this review and buy this damn CD, because you will love it! Following grind’s motto, “Too punk for metalheads and too metal for punks” this band has a healthy balance between both genres, though has more punk guitar-work and less riffing than a metalhead would enjoy. The vocals follow the same style as VxPxOxAxAxOxWxAxMxC with the pig-squealing inhales, which I suppose is an acquired taste for most people, but I quite enjoy them, and can execute them myself. You won’t find a whole lot of Carcass or traditional goregrind in this record, because they play more like the more recent pornogrind bands.

“Dirty Jazz Bondage Club” contains some incredible goregrinding tunes. If you excuse the childish intro, “Rampage of the Hillbillies” is a great track for any grinder with a great beat and rhythm for headbanging. “The Art of Squirting” is probably still my favorite track by them, because I cannot get over how awesome the grooves are!

There one major problem I have with this album though: there are no lyrics. It’s not surprising however because we are dealing with goregrind, but as a vocalist myself, I want people to remember what I have to say and have my words infiltrate and permeate their minds after even one listen. Some goregrind bands have been able to pull off having memorable songs, and they are typically the ones who get the fame. I think Brutal Sphincter could get a much larger fan base, if they implement lyrical writing with their already incredible vocal rhythms and execution.

Overall, “Dirty Jazz Bondage Club” is a great album, and definitely one I will purchase once it is physically released. I enjoy the energy captured in every song. This will definitely be an album to remember!
