Investigating human perception and identity by interpreting mythologies into music, film, dance, and immersive interactive media.
I am Ganesh Rao, and I am an artist. I have been offered two opportunities to continue the creation of my work. The first one is a collaboration with Audiotree in Chicago, and the second one is an artist-in-residence at the Vortex Immersion Media Dome in Los Angeles. These opportunities will help create works that investigate human identity and perception through music, dance and cinema. To fully realize the vision for these artworks I need your support.
Through the opportunities I will create the following two artworks which will further my current body of work titled Forbidden Circle.
Prayers: A Music Film
Prayers theatrically explores the process of healing, and reuniting the fragments of a person's identity through music, dance and cinema. It invokes a surreal and primal experience by juxtaposing ethereal voices over ambient drones and aggressive guitars, and visually creates an imaginary world where the human body is intertwined with that of plants. This project is a collaboration with singer Dréa Drury, and visual storyteller Jonny Greenwald, developed with the artist-support group Audiotree in Chicago. The finished film will be available for online viewing (on Youtube and Vimeo) in late October, and will be submitted to various national and international juried film festivals, art shows, and galleries.
Living Dome: An Immersive-Interactive Experience
Living Dome is an interactive audience-controlled visual collage that explores the formation of a collective human identity within the Vortex Dome. Audience members use their mobile devices to collectively navigate an imaginary world embedded with symbolic digital sculptures that are generated in real-time by the performance of a dancer. This project is developed at a month-long residency at the Vortex Immersion Media Dome in Los Angeles with collaborators Jonny Greenwald and Shyam Kannapurakkaran. The finished interactive performance will take place at the end of June at the Vortex Dome in Los Angeles. A video highlighting this show will be available for online viewing on Youtube and Vimeo.
