Eximperituserqethhzebibšiptugakkathšulweliarzaxulum have been turning heads for years now for a number of reasons. Clearly, at a first impression, their name is striking and their song titles have much of the same effect. But the intrigue of this Belarus-based Atmospheric / Brutal Death Metal unit spans far past this. Simply put, their music is excellent. They twist and turn the ears with extreme methods of metallic experimentation fully worth indulging in. So indulge we shall.
As a follow up to the success of last year’s “Prajecyrujučy Sinhuliarnaje Wypramieńwańnie Daktryny Absaliutnaha J Usiopahłynaĺnaha Zła Skroź Šaścihrannuju Pryzmu Sîn-Ahhī-Erība Na Hipierpawierchniu Zadyjakaĺnaha Kaŭčęha Zasnawaĺnikaŭ Kosmatęchničnaha Ordęna Palieakantakta...”, the band has opted to flip a few things around with their shortest titles to date. But, once again, the intrigue of “W2246-0526” digs far deeper than any surface level could hope to contain.
However, before we dig in too far, let it be known that the new record is being prepared for release on October 20th, 2017. Pre-orders are currently available on Bandcamp along with an EP teaser. You can find the rest of their deadly music at this location as well. So give them a listen and enjoy the experience!
Back to business… “W2246-0526” opens slow and steady with layers of angry chords that are soon joined by winding drum work and vocals before a lead guitar takes hold. The effect of this passage feels much like an impending doom or the approach of a large destructive force.
Then it happens… “Heka” piles on a ravaging force of double bass directly into the listener’s ears that wind up into a malevolent blastbeat! After a good pummeling, the track transitions back to variations on the original chords with a dissonant guitar solo ripping on top which then smooths out before striking with another grueling blastbeat. This all channels into a third variation of the original chords with a certain extra emphasis which has to be admired. This caps off the track in an excellent manner before descending through a beautifully rain swept acoustic atmosphere.
The effect this opening track has could easily be described as massive and evil. A soundtrack to an apocalypse and what remains afterwards. It tells a story that needs to be heard.
Speaking of the story, Eximperitus (for short) explain the meaning behind the EP and its duo of tracks as such, “It was named ‘W2246-0525’ after the brightest galaxy known so far, that is being devoured by black hole. Being remote from us 12.4 billion light years away, it is being observed in the very state when the Universe was only 10% as old. Symbolizing the process of eternal dying and decomposition of all the bases of creation, asserting that even the great will fall! This EP contains two tracks. The first part is Ḥeka (Anc.Eg. Magic. Literally it means ‘fortification of Ka activity’). Egyptians considered that expanding the force of a soul is the very principle on which magic works. The word ‘Ḥeka’ also implies great force and the impact which the practicing one may inflict on Ka gods. The second part is Deshret (Anc.Eg. Desert). The habitants of the Ancient East believed the desert is the realm of demons, sorcerers and evil deities. The same belief may be addressed to a mind/consciousness of a man.”
“Heka” transitions flawlessly into the second track “Deshret” which brings waves of heaviness broken by dissonant counterpoints. This all builds up before striking with the grind of a paced blastbeat and a layer of growls seemingly from the depths of hell. Then a nasty bit of a groove kicks in, conjuring a good headbanging out of unsuspecting listeners. This section is followed by a blast which transitions into a similar effect “Heka” had with a sweet variation on the track’s opening.
Eximperitus has a great way of playing with and expanding upon their many ideas. This shows further as a beautifully placed guitar solo moves into place and back into another variation on the track’s musical theme. Then a sudden break flips the entire track on it’s head through alluring distortion and another well placed blastbeat to close things out.
For it’s 11+ minutes of content, there’s a lot to be discovered here from the first exposure to every subsequent listen. The experience is deceptively raw and visceral as there is clearly an undercurrent of coldly calculated chaos to be enjoyed here. There is a level of depth and complexity to these tracks which is equal parts impressive and enjoyable. The band is not afraid to experiment and it shows with a shine of success.
Once again, keep in mind that pre-orders, along with all the band’s previous releases, are currently available to those who CLICK HERE. Prepare yourselves for October 20th!
