For those who don’t know, The Human Abstract is (was) an incredible neo-classical style metal band that has more or less faded in and out of existence ever since their inception 10 years ago. One thing was always certain though – their music always had the ability to bend the mind and question your definition of talent.
Currently, the band is in a prolonged state of limbo. They’ve never officially broken up and some members are more inclined than others to make another record. The most recent news on that front is this…
First off, a little over two years ago, bassist Henry Salva had this to say…
“Fuck. How can I put this?
It was hard enough answering fan question while I was working for Protest the Hero. Folks, we are not looking for a new vocalist. We are not touring anytime soon. I think it’s only fair you guys know that we’re on “break or hiatus if you will.” I don’t know why we haven’t said anything. I guess it’s because there is always that “maybe if something happens, etc..etc…” Or maybe it’s hard for us to realize the reality of our situation, the bands situation, to finally let go. I’ll be honest when I say the folllowing: Periphery and Never Say Die were our last tours together as a band.
It was amazing experience while it lasted. Dean is going back to USC to further his education. AJ, as you know will always continue writing and teaching. Brett, I am sure has something up his sleeve.
Thank you to everyone who came out to show their love for the band and the music. I’m proud to say that I got to perform and record along side such amazing musicians.”
Days later, guitarist Dean Herrera stated the following via Formspring…
“As far as im concerned we aren’t broken up, that was Henry going out and spewing the inner workings of the band. We never actually came together and decided anything. I’m still real pissed at him for that. Sure we’re taking time, but that doesn’t mean anything other than that… Taking time.. As far as travis…. who knows… can’t say what might have happened.”
Months later, vocalist Travis Richter stated via Facebook…
“Life would be a lot easier if we could just make another human abstract record – music for me is only alive when there are releases – even touring is second when you create art on that level.”
Last year E1 dropped the band… The future of The Human Abstract is very much uncertain.
They’ve kept up their personal pursuits in the mean time. For example, lead guitarist A.J. Minette released THIS RIGHT HERE.
While we wait for some form of closure or continuity… here’s some awesome music! We included tracks from the famed “Nocturne”, “Digital Veil” and even “Midheaven”. Also keeping up with the neo-classical approach, the band released an incredible cover of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata”. All the above are brilliant! Enjoy the music.
