Crowd funding is becoming more and more prevalent in the modern metal world. Bands are turning to their fans for funding instead of relying on record labels to get them from point A to point B. The most famous example being Protest The Hero’s large sum of $300,000+ raised (even if they ended up signing to a label again…). Some would even argue the whole crowd funding phenomena is becoming an obnoxious trend.
The most recent band to turn to their fans might catch you off guard though (unless you bothered to read the headline of course…). Florida Death Metal legends / innovators Obituary have officially kicked off a Kickstarter campaign to bolster their new album independently. They’re currently seeking to raise $10,000 to get the deed done. As of now, they’ve already raised $8,000+ and counting. If you’re interested in supporting, click right here for more info.
